Values-Based Career Self-Assessment

Values-Based Career Self-Assessment

A five-part protocol: a values hierarchy, behavioural evidence, environment mapping, real-world tests, and interpretation with a human. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

This app does not hand you a "correct career". It orders what you already know about yourself and lets you check it against evidence.

The five components

  1. (a) The PVQ-RR values questionnaire — a hierarchy of 19 values, centred within person.
  2. (b) Behavioural evidence — six specific dated incidents, coded against your hierarchy.
  3. (c) Environment mapping — your needs and ability requirements against O*NET occupation profiles.
  4. (d) Real-world tests — bounded projects plus a log of absorption and depletion.
  5. (e) Interpretation with a counsellor — 4–5 sessions; the largest measured ingredient.

What to expect from the results

The hit rate of interest instruments for career choice is around 50% overall and around 40% predictively (Hanna & Rounds 2020). Career interventions as a whole produce d ≈ 0.35 (Whiston et al. 2017). The value here is ruling options out, not discovering one right answer.

Where to start

Work through the steps in order. Your answers are stored only in your browser's local storage and are never transmitted.
